A day starting with a mug of this fragrant Honey Cardamom Latte is always the best.

And if you’re already making lattes at home in the morning, there’s really nothing more to making this delicious latte creation than just adding in some cardamom and a little honey.

Sometimes, if I want to get really fancy, I’ll swap out my standard milk for vanilla oat or almond milk. It adds even more flavor. You could also add in ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract to get that warm, vanilla flavor.

And, to finish things off, I’ll sprinkle on a little cinnamon. But other than that, this recipe is super simple and can be made with just four ingredients that you may have on hand already.

Two mugs of cardamom latte next to pinch bowl of cardamom and small bowl of honey.

Ingredient notes

You only need four ingredients to make this Honey Cardamom Latte recipe:

  1. Espresso – You can use ground instant espresso, an espresso machine, or, swap in strong brewed coffee. This latte is also delicious when made with black tea.
  2. Honey – Or, swap in some maple syrup or agave syrup. Here’s 5+ honey substitutes.
  3. Milk – You can use any type of milk that you prefer. Regular, soy milk, almond milk and oat milk all work.
  4. Ground Cardamom – Cardamom can be purchased either in its pod form, or ground. I used ground cardamom in this recipe.

What is Cardamom?

  • Cardamom is spicy and fragrant with notes of citrus and mint. It’s used often in baked goods like this Apple Galette with Cardamom, but it can also be delicious in savory recipes.

Is There a Substitute for Cardamom?

  • While its flavor can’t be replicated, you can use other spices in place of the cardamom in this recipe. Try using ½ teaspoon cinnamon and ½ teaspoon nutmeg in its place.

  2. Add espresso, honey and cardamom to a large mug. Stir to combine.
  3. Froth and heat milk using the milk frother attachment of your espresso machine. Or, try using this handy frothing wand.
  4. Top espresso with the frothed milk and sprinkle with a pinch of cinnamon or cardamom.

Can I make this cardamom latte with tea?

  • Yes! This cardamom latte would also be delicious made with black tea.

Cardamom is one of my favorite spices and is way underrated, in my opinion. That said, I’ve never thought to use cardamom in a latte! (My fave way is with yogurt and pear – DELISH.) And I totally agree that starting your day with something special and warm in a mug is a great way to ensure you’ll have a good day!

Oh goodness that sounds so darn comforting and delicious. I’m totally going to give this a try. I’m sure my kiddos would love it too (sans the espresso of course ;).
    Cheers!
