What are frozen gummy bears?

Frozen Gummy Bears are exactly what they sound like—gummy bears that have been frozen to create a fun new texture.

I first saw them pop up on my TikTok feed, and while it’s hard to pinpoint exactly who started the trend, thousands of people have since joined in on the fun, sharing videos of them biting into these icy treats.

Frozen gummy bears don’t actually have a traditional “crunch” like ice—think of them as a soft, cold chew. It’s like they freeze into a chewy nugget of frozen goodness—soft and cold at the same time. They’re fun to eat, and, let’s be honest, gummy bears are already delicious on their own!

What do frozen gummy bears taste like?

The taste is familiar—just like regular gummy bears—but the texture is what makes them unique. They’re crisp and cold, but not hard.

You might expect them to be as tough as ice cubes, but they’re more like a soft, frozen chew, almost like nugget ice that melts in your mouth.

The gelatin and sugar content help keep them soft, so they have a chewy yet icy texture that’s both fun and refreshing. It’s a cool treat, literally and figuratively!

Ingredients needed

Making these frozen gummy bears couldn’t be easier. You’ll need just two ingredients:

  • Gummy Bears – I used classic Haribo gummy bears, but feel free to experiment with different gummy shapes, flavors, or even brands. Try Sour Patch Kids, gummy worms, or peach rings for a fun twist.
  • Sprite – Sprite was used in the original TikTok recipe, and I love it for its sweetness and fizz. That said, you can get creative with your soda choice! Other fun options include cola, cream soda, Mountain Dew, or even ginger ale.

Supplies needed

  • Baking dish
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet or flat plate

How to make them

  1. Prepare Your Gummy Bears – Spread your gummy bears evenly across the baking dish, plate, or baking sheet.
  2. Soak in Sprite – Pour Sprite (or your soda of choice) over the gummy bears, ensuring they’re fully submerged, with at least a 1/2 inch of extra soda on top. You can add more soda as needed. Soak for at least 8 hours, or overnight. They will double in size and get huge!
  3. Freeze – Using a slotted spoon, remove the gummy bears from the sprite and arrange them in a single layer (not touching) on a dish or baking sheet that’s lined with parchment paper. Freeze for at least 3 hours, or overnight.
  4. Serve and Enjoy – Once they’re frozen enjoy the icy, chewy goodness!
