Learn to make your own DIY wedding matches. These match wedding favors are so cute and festive and the perfect small gift for your wedding guests.
When planning for our wedding, the wedding favors were a challenge for me to come up with… I thought about creating favors out of mini champagne bottles (these are the cutest). Or sending everyone home with an engraved corkscrew. But nothing seemed quite right.
Then, one day (during my bachelorette party actually), we were at a winery where they were setting up for a wedding. On one of the tables was a large vase filled with matchbooks that had been personalized. That’s what inspired me to make these DIY wedding match favors.
DIY Wedding Match Favors
For our wedding, we sent each of our guests home with wedding matches that were personalized with the date of our wedding and the place where we first met: The Cooler.
Yep. We met the old fashioned way. At a bar in Eugene, Oregon.
We placed a vial of matches at each table setting for our guests to take home with them. I figured that it’s not an overly obtrusive gift and if the guests wanted to remove any reference to our wedding, they could just remove the tag and still have a nice and useful match container.
These DIY wedding match favors were super simple to make at home. I was able to put together all the matchbooks for our wedding guests in a single afternoon. If you had help, the process could be even faster. I found the entire process really relaxing too, which is perfect when you’re in the midst of planning for a wedding, organizing seating charts, and managing out of town guests and family members.
I like to set up separate stations for assembling the wedding match favors. One for filling the glass bottles with matches. One for gluing on the strike sticks. And one for embellishing the bottles with tags and stickers.
Here’s how to make these unique and personalized wedding match favors yourself.
