What is Christmas punch?

This easy, go-to drink is so festive, colorful, and delicious! Christmas punch is traditionally served in big batches at parties. You just need a few key ingredients for a good punch: juice, bubbles, and fruit. Alcohol is optional!

The best Christmas punch recipes are colorful and have sweet, fruity flavors. Don’t forget a beautiful festive garnish, like dried orange slices, fresh cranberries, limes, or orange wheels.

Ingredients needed

All you need are 5 ingredients to make this party punch:

  • Cranberry juice
  • Pineapple juice
  • Sparkling wine
  • Dark rum or brandy
  • Sparkling water

What kind of sparkling wine is best for punch?

A very dry sparkling wine or champagne is best because they aren’t as aromatic or fruity as other varieties. A dry wine labeled “brut”, such as cava or prosecco, won’t overtake the taste from the fruity juices and other alcohols in the punch.

How to make it

It’s so easy! Just add all of your ingredients into a large punch bowl or pitcher filled with ice. Give it a good stir, add in your garnishes, and serve!

Garnish ideas

Garnish your punch with fresh or frozen cranberries, a sliced lime, orange slices, sprigs of mint, and/or pomegranate seeds. Don’t forget the ice!

How to make it non-alcoholic

This Christmas punch is still refreshing and delicious without the alcohol. Omit the rum/brandy and replace the sparkling wine with sparkling white grape juice.

Tips for making it

  • Chill all of your ingredients beforehand. The colder the punch is, the more refreshing it will be.
  • If you can, splurge on the 100% juices. Since they don’t contain preservatives or added sugar, you’ll get the best flavor possible.
  • Freeze your garnishes into ice cubes for a beautiful presentation.

How to make ahead

Because this punch is so easy to throw together, it’s a real time-saving drink you can serve in a flash. But, if you’re low on time, simply throw all of the ingredients (except the sparkling wine and water) in your punch bowl and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Pour in the bubbly right before serving so every glass is fizzy.

Variations

  • Switch up the alcohol. Raspberry vodka, plain vodka, or gin would make great replacements for the rum or brandy.
  • Mix up the flavors! Replace the cranberry juice with pomegranate juice, use ginger ale or a lemon-lime soda instead of the sparkling water, and replace the pineapple juice with orange juice.
  • Celebrate the seasons. Add a splash of apple cider and garnish with lemons and oranges to celebrate the fall and winter seasons.
  • Make it creamy. Add several scoops of your favorite sherbert (raspberry, lime and orange are great options).
