While the pineapple brings a sunny twist, this recipe stays true to its classic Moscow Mule roots with its essential duo of vodka and spicy ginger beer – a formula so good it has inspired endless variations like the Kentucky Mule with bourbon. It begs to be served in the iconic copper mug, which does more than look stunning: the metal chills instantly with the ice, keeping your drink colder longer while the cool touch elevates the entire experience.

While optional, garnishing this pineapple Moscow Mule with a slice of fresh pineapple and mint sprig takes it to a level of sophistication you don’t want to miss!

Why you’ll love this recipe

This Pineapple Moscow Mule is a no-fuss favorite, coming together in just minutes with a handful of ingredients that you can easily customize – dial the sweetness up or down, swap the vodka for another spirit, or create an entirely new fruit variation. It’s the perfect, effortless cocktail to unwind at home after a long day or to serve your party guests alongside your best appetizers!

Ingredient notes

  • Pineapple juice – For the best flavor, seek out chilled, fresh-pressed pineapple juice. A reliable alternative is 100% pineapple juice from a can, found in the canned fruit aisle.
  • Vodka – Use a mid-range, clean vodka. My personal favorite is Tito’s vodka. Pineapple-infused vodka can be used for a stronger tropical flavor.
  • Fresh lime juice – Freshly squeezed lime juice is essential for the right tart balance. Roll the lime on the counter before juicing to get the most liquid. While store-bought lime juice can be used in a pinch, it just doesn’t compare to the flavor you get from a real lime.
  • Ginger beer – Always use ginger beer, not the milder ginger ale. Premium brands like Fever Tree offer the perfect spicy-sweet balance that won’t overpower the ginger flavor.
  • Optional garnishes – I love to use pineapple slices and mint sprigs.

How to make it

  1. Combine the ingredients: Add pineapple juice, vodka, lime juice and ice to a copper mug. Top with ginger beer to fill.
  2. Garnish and serve: Garnish with a slice of fresh pineapple and mint sprig, if desired.

More uses for pineapple moscow mule ingredients

Don’t stop at one cocktail! Unlock a world of flavor by putting your leftover Pineapple Moscow Mule ingredients to work. Here are some fun ideas:

  • Fresh pineapple – If you’ve used a fresh whole pineapple to cut slices for your cocktail garnish, consider using a leftover half to make a pineapple bowl to serve fresh pineapple salsa!
  • Pineapple juice – Use fresh pineapple juice to make thirst-quenching cocktails, like this Hawaiian Mai Tai cocktail or Pineapple Vodka Cocktail.
  • Ginger beer – Have extra ginger beer on hand? Why not experiment by making these 20+ Types of Moscow Mules!
  • Vodka – Try these tasty Vodka Cocktail Recipes for year-round entertaining. You can even cook with it to make dishes like Homemade Vodka Sauce: Penne Alla Vodka!

Tips and tricks

  • Once assembled, serve your pineapple Moscow Mule immediately. Left at room temperature for too long will result in the ice melting and diluting the flavor of your cocktail.
  • Bruise or muddle the mint before adding it as a garnish to release the aromatic oils and improve the cocktail’s aroma.
  • To preserve the carbonation and fizz, never shake or mix the ginger beer in a shaker. Instead, add the ginger beer last to the copper mug or glass and stir gently.
  • Use plenty of ice since a traditional Moscow Mule should be ice-cold. Fill your copper mug with ice to about half an inch from the top for maximum chill without diluting the flavors too quickly.
  • For the classic Moscow Mule experience, serve it in a chilled copper mug. This not only makes the drink look great but also keeps it very cold for longer.

Variations

Try any of these easy ingredient swaps to craft a personalized Moscow Mule for any taste, season, or occasion. Here are some of my top variations:

  • Type of vodka – I’ve used plain vodka, but you could opt for a pineapple-infused vodka for a stronger tropical flavor.
  • Different liquors – Feel free to use tequila (“Mexican Mule”), bourbon (“Kentucky Mule”), gin (“Gin Buck” or “Gin Gin Mule”), rum (“Dark ‘n Stormy” when using dark rum), or Irish whisky (“Irish Mule”).
  • Fruity twist – Easily swap the pineapple juice for other fresh fruit juices and/or fresh fruit, such as my Cherry Moscow Mule, Raspberry-Lime Moscow Mule, Strawberry-Lime Moscow Mule, or Apple Cider Moscow Mule, Blackberry Mule Cocktail.
  • Pineapple Moscow Mule with ginger ale – You can use ginger ale, but it will result in a much sweeter cocktail with a much milder ginger flavor. For the traditional spicy bite and balanced flavor, I always recommend using ginger beer.
  • Grilled pineapple garnish – Kick your presentation up a notch with a slice of grilled pineapple! Heat your grill or grill pan to a medium temperature. Lightly oil the grates and arrange the pineapple wedges in a single layer. Grill for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are tender and have nice grill marks.
  • Pineapple Moscow Mule Mocktail – Ditch the vodka for an alcohol-free drink that’s still loaded with sipworthy flavor!
  • Make it sweeter – I prefer my cocktails on the ‘not so sweet’ side, but if you have a sweet tooth, try mixing in a simple syrup.
