While I do love grilled bell peppers, you can air fry peppers year-round. No need to bear the cold temperatures. All you need is an air fryer and a few simple ingredients – bell peppers, oil, and salt + pepper! It’s just that simple.

This colorful combination is deliciously tender, charred, and sweet, and it all comes together with very minimal effort.

Possibly the best part of this air fried peppers recipe is the serving options. Anything goes! Pair the peppers with fajitas, burrito bowls, and cheesesteak sandwiches, or they’re a perfect side dish with grilled meats, like my Peruvian Chicken or some grilled turkey sausage. Or, add them to this vegetarian paella. The options are practically endless.

🫑 What do you need to make air fryer peppers?

You only need 3 simple ingredients:

  • Bell peppers – There are plenty of peppers to choose from when it comes to grilling, but some of the most common are bell peppers (red, yellow, orange, and green). Red bell peppers are the sweetest and most flavorful, orange and yellow are sweet with a subtle tang, and green bell peppers have a more robust, grassy flavor. Use one or use them all!
  • Olive oil – Coating the surface of the peppers in oil will enhance the overall flavor and prevent them from sticking to the air fryer basket. If you don’t have olive oil, use another high-heat oil like avocado oil or grapeseed oil.
  • Salt + Pepper – Seasoning the peppers with salt + pepper enhances their natural sweetness.

👩‍🍳 How do you cook peppers in an air fryer?

Preheat the air fryer to 400-degrees. If your air fryer doesn’t require pre-heating, you can skip this step.

Prep the peppers. Remove the seeds and stems, then slice them about 1/2-inch thick. Toss them in olive oil and season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

Cook. Place peppers in the air fryer and cook for about 12 minutes, tossing halfway through. You’ll know they’re just about done when they start to soften and the outside is developing a nice char.

⚒️ Recommended Tool

You likely already have an air fryer since you are reading this post. But in case you’re in the market to buy a new one, here are my TOP 5 Favorite Air Fryers!

ℹ️ Tips and tricks

  • To prep bell peppers for air frying, use a sharp knife to remove the stemmed end and clean out the seeds. Slice the cleaned pepper vertically into 1/2″ pieces.
  • No air fryer? Try broiling your peppers in the oven instead. Place the peppers on a foil-lined baking sheet and place under the preheated broiler until the skin begins to blacken and blister.

🙌🏻 Customize it

Any of these mild and spicy peppers are also great for air frying. Mix them in with your grilled bell peppers or try them on their own:

  • Banana peppers
  • Shishito peppers
  • Poblano peppers
  • Ancho chile peppers
  • Mini bell peppers
  • Jalapeno peppers

🌟 Variations

Air Fryer Peppers and Onions

  • Add some sliced onions along with the peppers. Just be sure to slice your onions thick enough so that they don’t fall through the holes of the air fryer basket.

Air Fryer Peppers and Sausage

  • Add some sliced Italian sausage or turkey sausage to the air fryer basket along with your peppers for a full meal deal!

🧂 Flavorings for fried peppers

Want to add a bit of extra flavor? After drizzling with oil, sprinkle on a bit of garlic powder, onion powder, or oregano. Or, drizzle on some balsamic vinegar for a little tang.

✔️ How to store

Leftovers will last in the fridge for up to 5-days stored in an airtight container or ziploc bag.

I’m sure this is exactly like every other air fryer recipe. Cut into reasonable sized pieces. Toss with salt, pepper, and oil. Fry for 12-15 minutes at 350-400 degrees. Probably flip/shake halfway through. I haven’t looked at the recipe yet. How did I do?

pretty badly– because you’re missing the point 🙂
this post also indicates what spice combinations would be pleasant, as well as other recipes it can be used for or combined with, which gives people ideas for their meals
plus if it’s someone’s first time putting bell peppers into an air fryer, it’d be good for them to know it’s better at 400 degrees F than 325 F, yeah?

If you want to know how you did at being smug, I’d say you did pretty well.
If you want to know how you did at face planting, I’d say you knocked it out of the park, dude!
