Oven Baked Buffalo Wings cook up amazingly crispy and juicy without deep frying. Then they’re tossed with a spicy buffalo wing sauce that can be made mild to hot, depending on your taste preference. You’ll honestly never believe these wings weren’t fried in the deep fryer. They’re some of the most crispy chicken wings I’ve tried!
Serve them with homemade blue cheese dressing or homemade ranch dressing for the ultimate wing experience.
I grew up just south of Buffalo, NY and I have definitely consumed my fair share of Buffalo Wings. We would eat them every Friday night while watching TGIF.
Everyone in town had an opinion on who made the best wings in town. In our house, the wings usually came from The Cherry Lounge in Jamestown. But, I’ve never actually been there… Being that it was a “lounge” and I was in high school, I was never actually allowed in. So, my mom would just get a to-go order and bring them home for us. I love them super spicy, and they have to be served with crispy, cold celery sticks & blue cheese (never ranch).
I’ve also tried the wings at the original Anchor Bar, where Buffalo Wings are said to have originated from.
But, the best wings, in my opinion are from Guppy’s in Bemus Point, NY. Guppy’s was owned by my Aunt Sally & Uncle Mike and theirs were always the best. Crispy and spicy, with just the perfect kiss of butter. Since then, I’ve adapted their original buffalo wings recipe to be my own.
As you probably guessed, the authentic way to make buffalo wings is deep frying. But I’ve discovered that you can make chicken wings just as crispy in the oven. Plus, it saves calories, meaning that you’ll feel a little less guilty about consuming an entire platter of them.
Tips for making crispy baked wings
- Coating the chicken wings in baking powder is what makes the skin super crispy.
- Baking the wings on a wire rack ensures the fat can drip off and air can circulate around the wings and get them extra crisp.
- Flipping the wings halfway through guarantees the wings are extra crispy all around.
How long to bake wings
- Chicken wings take 30-35 minutes to cook and become crispy in a 450-degree oven.

Wine pairings for Buffalo Wings:
- To tame the heat of these buffalo wings, look for a wine with a hint of sweetness. Riesling and Gewurztraminer make great options.
- Even though I usually give wine pairings, I’d also suggest pairing a light beer, like a pilsner with these buffalo wings.

Baking buffalo wings in the oven is such a good idea, and a healthier twist on a delicious bar food favorite. I love that you make splurge dishes healthier, Erin!
Yummy !!!
If I don’t have a wire rack can I use just any kind of pan to cook them in
You can Jacqueline – Though the rack helps the air circulate and guarantee crispy wings.
Such an easy and delicious recipe. I was skeptical about the baking powder but it works! The wings turned out crispy and golden brown without frying. U plan to use this recipe from now on. Thanks for sharing with us.
You are so welcome! I’m glad you liked them!
We can’t get wings anywhere near us right now. Everyone must be buying them up. Lol! Can we use this on regular drumsticks and thighs? If so would we just cook longer or use the same cooking time? Thanks!
Hi Melissa – you can definitely use drumsticks and thighs, but you would need to increase the cook time to about 45 minutes total. They should be cooked to 165-degrees. Hope that helps!
After our favorite wing restaurant just doubled their prices, I’ve been looking for a simple recipe for crispy wings without buying an air fryer. This is it!! These turned out perfectly crispy and delicious! My husband said they were the perfect football food to go along with the Vols win last night. We will be making these again, and trying more of your recipes. 🙂
Thank you Hannah! I appreciate it so much 🙂
