Why You’ll Love It

There’s something about the bright, zesty flavor of Limoncello Spritz that instantly transports me to sunny summer days.

This refreshing cocktail is a delightful combination of tangy lemon liqueur, sparkling wine, and a splash of soda water, creating a fizzy, refreshing drink that is perfect for warm weather gatherings.

Whether you’re hosting a backyard barbecue or simply lounging by the pool, the Limoncello Spritz is the ultimate summer sipping experience.

Ingredients Needed

To whip up your own Limoncello Spritz, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  • Limoncello Liqueur – Limoncello is an Italian liqueur that’s bursting with the flavor of lemons. It’s refreshing and tangy! Have you tried my sous vide limoncello?
  • Prosecco – Or, any sparkling wine of your choice. Cava and champagne are other great options. No need to reach for an expensive bottle though!
  • Soda Water – Aka club soda.
  • Ice Cubes
  • Garnishes – Fresh mint leaves and lemon slices. Or, see below for more garnishing options.

How to Make a Limoncello Spritzer

  • Fill a glass with ice cubes. I like serving my spritzes in large wine glasses. But you can also serve them in tumblers or pint glasses.
  • Pour 2 ounces of Italian lemon liqueur into the glass.
  • Slowly pour in 3 ounces of Prosecco (or sparkling wine of your choice).
  • Give the mixture a gentle stir to combine the flavors.
  • Top it off with 1 ounce of soda water to add a refreshing fizz.
  • Garnish with fresh mint leaves and a couple of lemon slices.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Adjust the sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter spritz, you can add a teaspoon of simple syrup or agave.
  • Make it less strong: In general, a spritz is a lower alcohol cocktail. However, if you would like to make it even less strong, use less Limoncello and Prosecco, and more soda water. Or, you can leave out the Prosecco entirely and just combine Limoncello and soda water.
  • Experiment with garnishes: Feel free to get creative with the garnishes. You can try adding a few raspberries, blueberries, basil leaves, thyme, or rosemary sprigs.
  • Serve it chilled: Make sure to keep your ingredients and glassware chilled before making the cocktail. The coolness adds to the overall refreshing experience.

How to Make a Pitcher of Limoncello Spritz

If you want to prepare a big batch of Limoncello Spritzes for a party or gathering, you can easily mix up a pitcher:

  • 1 cup of Limoncello liqueur
  • 1 bottle (750ml) of Prosecco (or any sparkling wine of your choice)
  • Soda water

Simply add the limoncello and prosecco to a pitcher and stir gently to combine. Keep the mixture stored in the fridge until ready to serve. When your guests arrive, fill glasses with ice and add the limoncello/prosecco mixture until it fills 2/3 of the glass. Top with soda water and serve!

What to Serve With It

The Limoncello Spritz pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes, making it a versatile choice for summer entertaining. Consider serving it alongside light appetizers such as bruschetta, shrimp cocktail, or a charcuterie board.

It also complements fresh salads, grilled seafood, or citrus-infused desserts like lemon bars or lemon tartlets.

FAQ

Can I use a different citrus liqueur instead of Limoncello?

Absolutely! While Limoncello is the traditional choice, you can experiment with other citrus liqueurs such as orangecello or grapefruit liqueur to create unique variations of the spritz.

Can I make a non-alcoholic version?

Yes, you can! Simply replace the Limoncello with fresh lemon juice or lemonade, and replace the Prosecco with sparkling water or a non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Adjust the sweetness using simple syrup if desired.

Can I use Champagne instead of Prosecco?

While Prosecco is the classic choice for a Limoncello Spritz, you can certainly substitute it with Champagne or any other sparkling wine you enjoy. Just keep in mind that the flavor profile might differ slightly.
