I think this Air Fryer Cherry Tomatoes recipe is going to go down as one of the best cherry tomato recipes ever. Incredibly easy to make, super fast, and with endless ways to enjoy them, you’ll never rely on the oven to roast your tomatoes ever again!

There are so many reasons why you should start roasting tomatoes in the air fryer instead of the oven:

  1. You get to skip the long preheating waiting times;
  2. It frees up space in the oven or kitchen for other things; and
  3. There’s almost no cleanup!

I seasoned the roasted cherry tomatoes with olive oil and simple Italian seasonings to give them mouthwatering flavors, helping them pair well with endless meals. I love to fold them into risotto, pasta, and soups. They’re a fantastic topping for cheesy party dips. Or, you can spread them on some toast with whipped feta or goat’s cheese. There are no limits when it comes to the serving options!

What’s better is that you can air fry the tomatoes and then store them away for later. They stay fresh and flavorful for weeks in the fridge and can even be frozen for months at a time.

Ingredient notes

  • Cherry tomatoes – Air fryer roasted cherry tomatoes are my favorite because they take very little time to air fry and add a burst of tart, garden-fresh flavor wherever they’re served. You’re not limited to cherry tomatoes, though. Use any of the other tomato varieties included in the FAQs below.
  • Extra virgin olive oil – A high-quality oil will give the tomatoes the best flavor and a rich mouthfeel.
  • Herbs and seasonings – I seasoned the tomatoes with salt, pepper, and dried oregano, then garnished them with fresh basil.

How to roast cherry tomatoes in the air fryer

  1. Place the tomatoes in a bowl and toss them with the olive oil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  2. Transfer the dressed tomatoes to the air fryer basket and cook until they’re a bit wilted, juicy, and fragrant.
  3. Garnish the roasted cherry tomatoes with fresh basil, then serve and enjoy!

Tips and variations

  • Slice the cherry tomatoes in half to help them cook faster or leave them whole. If they’re still on the vine, leave the vine intact for an enhanced garden-fresh flavor.
  • Line the air fryer basket with a layer of parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • You’ll know the cherry tomatoes are perfectly cooked when they’re blistered, a bit juicy, and lightly browned in some spots.
  • Roast the tomatoes with fresh garlic cloves or sprigs of fresh oregano and/or rosemary to take the Italian flavors up a notch.
  • Feel free to swap the individual herbs with a pre-mixed Italian seasoning blend instead.
  • Once they’re done, feel free to garnish the roasted tomatoes with freshly grated parmesan, gremolata, a balsamic reduction, pesto, crumbled feta cheese, or more fresh herbs.

Serving suggestions

There are endless ways to enjoy these juicy, air fryer roasted tomatoes! These are just a few ideas that will hopefully spark your imagination:

  • Enjoy them with garlic bread or focaccia for a simple yet flavorful appetizer.
  • Serve them as a simple side dish with Ribeye Steak or Roasted Chicken.
  • Fold them into this Caprese Risotto or Lemon Risotto.
  • They’re the perfect topping for this Baked Goat Cheese Appetizer.
  • Fold them into your favorite creamy pasta dish, like Creamy Rose Pasta or Penne Alla Vodka.
  • Add them to this Avocado Chickpea Salad for a deeper flavor profile.
  • Puree them into my Easy Tomato Bisque.
  • Serve them with your eggs for breakfast.
  • Add them to your favorite pasta sauce for a little more texture. I love them in my Butter Roasted Tomato Sauce and Sunday Gravy.
  • Spread some whipped feta on toast and top it with the roasted tomatoes.
  • Use them as a topping on party dips and snacks, like this Whipped Feta Dip, bruschetta, or Whipped Feta Hummus.
  • Mash them up for Pan Con Tomate.

FAQs

What kind of tomatoes can you cook in the air fryer?

All kinds! You can cook whole or sliced beefsteak, Roma, grape, heirloom, or any other kind of tomato you like in the air fryer.

How long do tomatoes take in the air fryer?

It took between 8 and 10 minutes to roast 2 cups of halved cherry tomatoes for this recipe. Keep in mind that the total cooking time will depend on the type of tomatoes you use and the functionality of your air fryer.

How do you store roasted tomatoes?

How to make ahead and store

Once they’re cooled to room temperature, transfer the tomatoes to an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 weeks. They also freeze well for up to 6 months. Let the frozen tomatoes thaw in the refrigerator before reheating them in the air fryer or microwave.

Erin’s wine pairings

  • Complement the sweet and earthy tomatoes with a light and dry white wine, like a Sauvignon Blanc.
  • A bright Rosé will also stand up to the acidic tomatoes beautifully.
