Garlic lovers, rejoice! Learning how to roast garlic in the air fryer is the secret to ultra-delicious savory sauces, dressings, pasta, mashed potatoes, and so much more.
I’ve always roasted garlic in the oven, but the air fryer is my new favorite way to make it! Why? It means no heating your whole oven just to roast a few heads of garlic. It also takes slightly less time to make garlic in the air fryer than with the traditional oven method.
Raw garlic vs. roasted garlic
Raw garlic can be potent! But roasted garlic is delicious & creamy with a more mellow garlic flavor.
Ingredients needed
Air Fryer Roasted Garlic is easy to make at home with 3 simple ingredients:
- Garlic heads
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
After air frying, the caramelized garlic cloves are soft, spreadable, and creamy. They can even be prepared ahead of time and stored in the fridge or freezer for later. It’s a savory ingredient you always need in your life!
How to make air fryer roasted garlic
This easy recipe comes together in 5 simple steps:
- Remove any loose, papery skin from the outside of the garlic heads. Use a sharp knife to slice 1/4″ off the top of the garlic bulb.
- Drizzle a little olive oil over the top of each one and add a sprinkle of salt and pepper.
- Wrap all of the heads in aluminum foil and place in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 380-degrees until they’re light golden brown and soft (about 30 to 35 minutes). For best results, rotate the heads in the basket halfway through cooking.
- Let them cool, then use your hands to squeeze the individual garlic cloves out of their skins.
Pro Tip: The cook time will remain the same regardless of the amount of garlic you’re air frying. However, the cooking time will vary based on the size of your garlic bulbs.
How to store leftover roasted garlic
Store the roasted garlic cloves (out of the skins) in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Or, to store longer, submerge the cloves in olive oil. Keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
To freeze, wrap the roasted garlic head(s) in foil and place in a sealed ziplock bag in the freezer.
How to use roasted garlic
- In mashed potatoes: Mashed roasted cloves are a great addition to mashed potatoes or cauliflower mash.
- In pasta: Savory pasta sauces, like roasted tomato sauce, pesto sauce, and vodka sauce, can all benefit from a little roasted garlic!
- On crusty bread or crostini: Spread the cloves on some toasted crostini with a bit of cambozola or brie cheese. Or, make garlic butter with it for extra delicious garlic toast. They’re also delicious spread on bagels with a bit of cream cheese.
- In soups and stews: Puree the garlic into quinoa soup, potato soup, lentil soup, or any soup that needs a hit of extra garlicky goodness.
- As a topping: On pizza, baked brie, whipped feta, or hummus.
- Blended into sauces: Roasted garlic adds a savory element to Caesar salad dressing, basil tahini sauce, garlic aioli, and pesto.
