Have you noticed that most smoothie recipes have banana in them?

I don’t love bananas. I feel like their flavor overtakes all the other ingredients, and they’re almost a little too thick for my liking.

That’s why I made this Blackberry Smoothie without banana.

Bowl of frozen blackberries next to honey wand.

Ingredients needed

  • Frozen Blackberries
  • Frozen Pineapple
  • Greek Yogurt
  • Almond Milk
  • Honey (optional)

How to make a blackberry smoothie

  • Add frozen blackberries, pineapple, yogurt, almond milk, to blender. Process until smooth.

Recipe tips

  • Use frozen blackberries and pineapple. They will help thicken the smoothie and keep it extra cold.
  • Use whatever type of milk you prefer. Almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, coconut milk and dairy milk are all great options.
  • To make a vegan blackberry smoothie, swap out the dairy yogurt for vegan yogurt, and omit the honey.
  • Add flax seeds, hemp seeds, or protein powder to increase the nutritional value of this banana-free smoothie.

What goes well with blackberries in a smoothie?

This simple recipe uses only blackberries, pineapple, yogurt and almond milk to make a creamy and delicious smoothie. However, there are so many other ingredients you can add in:

  • Milks: Almond milk, soy milk, oat milk, coconut milk and dairy milk.
  • Protein Options: Flax seeds, hemp seeds, or protein powder.
  • Fruits: Strawberry, mango, peaches, banana, blueberries, raspberries, orange, apple.
  • Veggies: Spinach or kale.
  • Spices: Cinnamon, cardamom, ginger.

Sounds delicious to me! I’ve been having a lot of smoothies lately but I try to stick with just berries for my fruits because they are lower on the glycemic index. But I’m sure it would be fine to throw in some pineapple every once in a while! 😉

Thank you! Bananas make me have awful pain. Smoothies always look so good, but I know they will trigger pain for me. I’m excited to try this recipe! Who knew a banana less smoothie! Thanks again!

  4. A food blogger who doesn’t like bananas? That sounds more like a psychopath. Freeze the bananas and use only half, any food blogger would know that trick wether you like bananas or not.
